Many satisfied users report that build quality and reliability is far superior to Ford or Vauxhall. It’s certainly true that the engine inside this van is made to last, using a similar unit to the Hilux pick-up truck BBC's Top Gear unsuccessfully tried to destroy. History Of Toyota

The Toyota Motor Group is largest of all the Japanese automotive producers and counts itself amongst the world leaders in terms of automobile production. Founded in 1937 as a spin off from Toyota Industries, a general engineering firm, Toyota Motor Company was initially headed by Kiichiro Toyoda.

Toyotas company grew rapidly and, within a decade, had released its first LCV, the Toyopet SB Light Truck. A huge success, Toyotas light commercial vehicles were soon being exported to markets all over the world, especially the United States.

When the chicken tax hit in the 1960s, and firms were no longer prepared to pay expensive premiums for imported LCVs, Toyota began to move its operations overseas, creating the global corporation we see today.

Despite the companys humble beginnings, by 2010 Toyota was employing 317,734 people worldwide and enjoying successes in all the major automobile markets. Nowadays, Toyotas primary LCV is the Hilux pickup truck, a vehicle that has actually been doing the rounds since 1968 but is still performing well in global markets.

Now onto its seventh generation, the Hilux received its most recent facelift in 2011 when its front end other external features were treated to a serious tweaking. Other improvements included a turbo-charged engine and enhanced fuel efficiency allowing it to achieve far more miles to the gallon than previous incarnations of the Hilux.
