History Of Renault

Backed by the French government who own a 15% stake in the company, Renault alliance with Nissan makes it one half of the fourth-largest automotive group on the planet. The history of Renault began in 1899 with three brothers, Louis, Marcel and Fernand Renault. Louis was a talented young engineer and had already built several prototype vehicles before teaming up with his brothers at the close of the 19th century.

Marcel and Fernand came at the venture from another angle. The twos business skills had been sharpened by working at their fathers textile firm, and so, while Louis handled the engineering and design work, the elder brother managed the fledgling company.

Far from being merely the business-minded company managers to Louis engineering prodigy, both the older brothers lived and breathed automobiles. In 1903, Marcel was tragically killed while indulging his passion in the infamous Paris to Madrid road race.

Nowadays, the Renault brand is amongst the most popular light commercial vehicle makes on the planet. The versatility of larger vans such as the Renault Trafic and the Renault Master has made them a hit with fleet operators, but it is the nimble little Renault Kangoo that has truly taken the LCV world by storm.

In production since 1997 and showing no signs of slowing down, this incredibly popular van is now almost ubiquitous on British roads. Soon to be available as an electric vehicle under the name Kangoo Express Z.E., the Renault Kangoo represents the French companys intent to spearhead a move towards cleaner, more sustainable cars and vans.
