History Of Peugeot

The origins of the Peugeot company can be traced back to long before the advent of the motor vehicle. Beginning as a coffee mill manufacturer in 1810, the family business slowly grew to include bicycles in their production repertoire, finally producing their first car in 1889.

A firm believer in Karl Benzs new invention, Armand Peugeot was keen to get into the automobile game early. This was a decision that benefitted not only himself but also his ancestors; as of 2011, Peugeot, as part of PSA Peugeot Citroen, were the second largest motor vehicle manufacturer in Europe.

In terms of light commercial vehicles, the Peugeot fleet is an extensive one. Between the Peugeot Bipper, the Peugeot Partner, the Peugeot Expert and the Peugeot Boxer, the French company cover all the LCV class bases. Even Peugeots famous hatchback line the 207 gets in on the act with a van version of its own.

It is Peugeots ultra-reliability and prestige as a brand that keeps fleet owners coming back for more. No stranger to lucrative contracts with operators, the French manufacturers have a knack of retaining this trade by repeatedly producing outstanding vehicles to replace their old models.

Peugeots prestige is evidenced by their award winning production record: seven European Car of the Year top-3 finished, including three winners. The Peugeot brand looks to be here to stay.
