The Mercedes-Benz brand is amongst the most historic and prestigious of all the automotive manufacturers. While being more synonymous with cars than with vans, the famous company does lay claim to an impressive pedigree when it comes to LCVs.
The Vito is the smallest of Mercedes vans and has been in production since 1996. The first generation Vito was the light commercial vehicle version of the Mercedes Viano, a people carrier, and shared bodywork with the Volkswagen Transporter.
In 2003 the vehicle received an overhaul and the second generation of the Vito was born. The second gen Vito is more streamlined than its predecessor, with more acutely angled windscreen and a lower profile bonnet. Now only available in two engine classes a 2.1 litre l4 and a 3.0 litre V6 the Vito shed its petrol engine option in 2003, leaving only diesel options remaining.
In 2008, the Vito was approved by the Public Carriage Office as a licensed London Black Cab. Fleets of Mercedes Vitos can now be seen ferrying passengers to and from locations all around the capital. Vehicles undergo rigorous testing before they are approved for such roles and being accepted is a testament to the reliability and versatility of the Vito.
Full compliance with the Euro 4 emissions directive is also required by the Public Carriage Office, so you can be sure that the Mercedes Vito is a green vehicle that doesnt compromise on performance.
