Transit Jumbo

Since its inception in 1953 the humble Ford Transit has appeared in a variety of guises. The ubiquitous goods vehicle we see steaming up and down our roads is almost unrecognisable from the boxy, bug-eyed little van that first rolled off the production line in Cologne nearly sixty years ago.

Now onto its seventh generation, the Transit is still going strong and remains the go-to vehicle for couriers and delivery drivers around the country. New versions of the Transit are also greener than ever before; the coated Diesel Particulate Filter, or cDPF, introduced in 2008 is just one of the environmentally friendly features introduced by Ford in recent years.

The Ford Transit Jumbo is, as you may suspect, the largest of the commercially produced Transit LCVs. With an overall length of 6403mm and a loadspace of 14.30 cubic metres, were talking about a super-sized vehicle.
The gross payload of this monster is 1422 kg, giving it a gross vehicle mass of 3500 kg. This is nearly 1500 kg heavy more than its miniature cousin the Transit Connect.

Features include power assisted steering and anti-lock brakes, both of which are likely to come in handy when driving with a fully laden van. Deadlocks and remote central locking also give the van added security.
