Bearing the name of one of the most famous of the light commercial vehicle dynasties, the Ford Transit Connect is part of a family of vehicles that have been a familiar sight on British roads for the best part of five decades.
While the name might imply otherwise, the Ford Transit Connectactually shares very little in common with the larger Transit vehicle. In fact, the Ford Transit Connectwas only introduced in 2002 as a replacement for the Ford Courier light commercial vehicle and is more closely related to the Ford Tourneo or Ford Focus than the Transit.
A young pup compared to the seasoned veteran Ford Transit, the Transit Connectis ideal for people and businesses making smaller scale deliveries for which a larger Transit model is unsuitable.
The Ford Transit Connect features a 1.8 litre 4-cylinder engine capable of producing between 75ps and 95ps depending on the model. Eminently convertible and highly versatile, the Transit Connecthas experienced great success in the commercial sector, whether it is acting as a taxicab or a couriers van.
In addition to the Transit Connects 2009 facelift, which gave it an updated grill and set of headlights ready for the start of a new decade, Ford have enjoyed tinkering with new models of the vehicle. The electrically powered Transit ConnectElectric and the souped-up Transit ConnectX-Press are two recent conceptual additions to the range.
