Mercedes have revealed their brand new van range, the Citan – an LCV designed for urban driving. Available in three
different lengths and with three diesel engine specifications, the Mercedes Citan will be released this autumn.
A 115hp supercharged petrol engine version will also be made available, along with a fuel-saving Blue-Efficiency pack which will come as standard on the petrol model and as an option on the three diesel models.
The Blue Efficiency pack is a lifesaver for inner city drivers. Including stop start and battery management, this feature will come in handy for the Citan’s target ownership.
Aimed at busy couriers making multiple drops in tight spaces, the agile Mercedes Citan will compete directly against already established names like the Ford Transit Connect and Renault Kangoo.
Information regarding pricing and further details are expected to be announced over summer but it seems likely that the Citan is will be a premium-priced addition to the city van portion of the light commercial vehicles market.
The front end of the Citan gives us a clue to its possible pricing bracket; the pronounced grille and large, 3-pointed Mercedes star are reminiscent of the front end of Mercedes’ coupe range, giving the Citan a prestigious look.
