When LCV meets LED: Hella In Bid to Brighten Up Our Vans!

When LCV Meets LED

Those who drive light commercial vehicles for a living spend a hell of a lot of time in their vans, some drivers even spending whole working days in their vehicles. Isn’t it about time we put a bit more thought into the interiors of these boxes we spend so much time in?

This is what lighting company Hella believe. Sick of the standard grey plastic dashboards and fittings, lit by those anaemic white passenger lights and those LED’s that fit into the instrument panel, Hella are proposing a radical change in interior aesthetics.

“Ambient LED lighting will open an entirely new chapter in automotive interior design,” said Hella’s director of engineering, Dr Herbert Wambsganss. “”Drivers will see significant changes in automotive interior lighting within the next five years – changes that will improve comfort levels and enhance brand awareness.”

What Dr Wambsganss says makes sense. After all, we invest so much time and money in making our homes look nice, only to go out to work and spend far more time in our van.

Scientific tests have identified a huge range of emotional responses triggered by ambient lighting of different colours; with this research, Hella hope to not only make light commercial vehicles a little cosier for drivers, but also markedly improve the psychological well-being and job satisfaction of those individuals behind the wheel.

Hella hope that by introducing features like multi-coloured LED modules, upholstery-enhancing back lighting and slimline interior striplights – as well as a whole host of other features – they can dramatically improve the driver experience for those confined to their LCVs for the majority of the day.
