Black ice…

Black ice refers to a thin coating of glazed ice on the road or pavement.

The notorious Black Ice...

While not entirely black, it is virtually transparent, allowing your average roadway to be seen through it, thus the term ‘black ice’.  The typically low levels of noticeable ice flakes, snow, or sleet surrounding black ice means that areas of the ice are often practically invisible to drivers and therefore do not serve as a good indicator that they should reduce their speeds.

With the cold weather showing no signs of improving, stay vigilant!
